Along with revision of the Act Relating to the
Promotion of Resource Saving and Reutilization, the Separate
Discharge Mark System started on January 1, 2003 to promote
resource recycling and reduce waste generation. |
|
| |
|
Producers of mandatory recycling products or packages,
mostly the daily necessities, are obliged to attach a separate
discharge mark on their products to allow consumers to easily
recognize for separate discharging and recycling. |
|

Products and packages of paper, glasses, metals,
and plastics, which do not belong to mandatory recycling, can
to carry the separate discharge mark after designation from
ENVICO. |

What are the
requisite components of mark design? Please explain
how to design marks. |

A mark design
has to comply with the guideline for separate discharge
mark announced by the Minister of Environment. Separate
Discharge Marks consist of an "indication mark",
"substance indication letters" in the middle of
the mark and a "separate discharge letters"
below the mark. |

an isosceles triangle.
The interior angle of the extended lines is 60 degrees.
The interior angle of the backside of the arrow

the thickness of the substance indication letters
in the middle is 2.5A when the letter part is composed
of 2 or fewer characters, and 2A when it has 3 or
more characters. |

Mark designs
can be downloaded from EPR homepage (http://www.epr.or.kr).
After downloading, reduce or enlarge the marks properly
to suit the packing materials size. |

Are there any
restrictions on the adhesion and location methods? |

The mark should
be attached by printing and carving on one side
of the mark mandatory products and packages. The
mark should be put on the front side so that it
can be easily discerned against the products and
packages. Otherwise, when inevitable for the shape
of the products and packages, it can be put on the
bottom or cap. |

Can the printed
marks be replaced by labels or stickers as well? |

Since the labels
and stickers are easily detached in the distribution
process, in principle, printing and carving are
strongly encouraged as the proper method. However,
they are allowed if unavoidable. |

The bottles
and packages of a certain volume and above of foods,

separate discharge mark system. Article 16 of the
Act Relating to Promotion of Resources Saving and
Reutilization stipulates the mandatory products
and packages. |

Glass bottles
used for packing certain products are stipulated
by the enforcement ordinance. Excluded are cosmetics'
packing; glass bottles subject to the Beverage Container
Deposit System. However, the bottles of Ringer's

Business persons
who wish to use a separate discharge mark should
submit the following documents to ENVICO. |

- Material test
certificate by a specialized institute
(this applies only for the synthetic
resin material)
- Production and sale amount and waste recovery
plan
- Trademark with a separate discharge mark |

|

ENVICO then
issues a separate discharge mark approval within
10 days of the application receipt. Applications
for separate discharge mark approval and the mark
design can be downloaded from the "Design of Mark"
section of this site. |
